Macro photo flash adapter in action: part 5 - objects for online auctions

Welcome!

My friend MATMOD (nick from photo forum) visited me today. We decided that photos of objects for online auctions would be the next Flash Adapter test. Therefore, the main objective was to take an attractive photograph showing the greatest number of details.

We had camera, Flash Adapter and external flash SB-600. An additional difficulty was our condition - for each image we used only one light source (built-in flash or external flash). To set the scene we used a fishing reel stabilized by a piece of wire and removable adhesive, laid on white cardboard.

First photo we take using only built-in flash.

The second photo we obtained with the use of an external flash. The burner was directed to the fishing reel.

The third photo is also with the use of an external flash, but this time the burner was directed to the ceiling.

And finally came the time for Flash Adapter. As you can see, every detail is visible.

In assessing these photographs for their suitability for the online auction we found that:

First place - photo no. 4 (with Flash Adapter use)
Evenly distributed tons, all visible in every detail.

Second place - photo no. 3
Also, it looks good, but in shaded areas is difficult to see the details.

Third and fourth place was not awarded :)

From a huge amount of pictures we did during the tests, in addition, I will present these.
Shooting technique similar.

The second with external flash and camera turned to the left.

The third - again external flash but the light is bounced from the wall behind the photographer.

And the fourth photo - only Flash Adapter.

Please, you look closer to this photos and make your own assessment.

They were taken by Nikon D80 with 50mm 1.8D. Focusing distance near 50-55cm.

Photos of the wooden human:
They were taken by Nikon D80 with Sigma 10-20mm set to 20mm.Focusing distance 40cm.

All photos done freehand.

Cheers!

Macro photo flash adapter in action: part 4 - lighting (Polish version!)

Welcome again!

Due to the requests of the Polish readers we created a Polish translation of an earlier post. Essentially content of the film isn't different from it's earlier version. Only subject of the photos were changed - here we have matches instead of coffee beans :)

Thank you very much for following our blog. I'm delighted that we have so many readers. I will add more stuff soon.

Bye!

Witam!

Serdecznie zapraszam do oglądania.

Pozdrawiam!

Macro photo flash adapter in action: part 3 - test

Welcome!

I would like to show you a reportage from our small open-air shooting. Despite bad weather we spent a few moments in the park.
Natalia, who you can see in the pictures, is using only our adapter.

Macro photo flash adapter in action: part 2 - time-lapse movie

Hello!

I would like to present you a time-lapse movie from our studio.

The first part of the movie shows what I did during recording the film: I clicked, I turned, I clicked, I turned, I clicked... and so 118 times :) And also I darkened exposure at the beginning and brightened it at the end.

The photos were taken with Nikon D80 + Nikon 50mm 1.8D + 12mm extension tube + adapter.

I changed scale of the photos to the 1280x857px, then I cropped evenly at the top and bottom to the video frame size, which is 1280x720. I didn't change anything else. Everything is as the camera registered originally.

Macro photo flash adapter in action: part 1 - outdoor macro photos

Welcome back!

Our flash adapter is designed mainly for an outdoor macro photography. One simple device, which you can carry in your handy bag and which makes creating interesting effects easy. In our "open-air test" adapter did a perfect job :) Anyway, please take a look...

To do the photos above I used only: Nikon D80 + Nikon 105mm macro + our adapter. These three scenes were done free-hand, hence the little difference in composition.

The last scene with the tripod.

There are no beetles, flowers or spider eyes – "Winter is coming" :)

First presentation of our diffuser for macro photography

Welcome!

Here comes the time for the first demonstration of our flash adapter. So – let's get started!

Below is a desing, which consists of photos of hand-made prototype processed in a graphics program. The prototype has a number of shortcomings, hence retouching – to make viewing more pleasant to you, not to cheat :)

Below I present the effects of light modeling of the simpliest macro scene as a sample of the diffuser capabilities. Please notice how a shadow changes depending on which channels are open.
